This place used to be the economic heart of Bahrain until around 50 years ago when the oil boom started. The place is traditional with narrow roads, compacted small shops, budget and traditional products. The area gives you a taste of the country in the pre-oil era, a taste of the lifestyle that used to be. Recently, a section of the area was renovated to keep the traditional style with modern facilities. The name means the Door of Bahrain as this used to be at the seaport of Bahrain before the land was reclaimed, and any visitor from around the world has to enter the country through this door.
