The Grand Egyptian Museum, designed by Heneghan Peng Architects have been over 20 years in the make and finally opened in 2024.
It is located near the Great Pyramids of Giza on a 500,000 sqm site. Upon completion, it will be the world's largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization, housing over 100,000 artefacts, including the full Tutankhamun Collection and the Solar Boat. The design features a dynamic stone facade and three visual axes aligned with the pyramids, dividing the building into three main zones. The museum includes extensive gardens, a children's museum, conference and education facilities, and a large conservation center. Needless to say, this is a must-visit in Cairo.
