Designer's Note
“This store is located inside one of the popular destinations in Shanghai, the Grand Gateway 66. Visible from multiple directions and situated at the intersection of many pathways, the space is perfect for our goal of creating ‘a little Central Park.’
The core of the design is the foldable shell created from a combination of wooden frames and synthetic paper that smoothly glides across the rail. The paper we used has a unique texture, creating a beautiful effect when illuminated. It is the most suitable material for our idea of a perfect shell. The wooden frames are connected by cross-steel bars, secured by a Chemex-shaped fixed joint to give it an additional hint of Arabica identity.
For the seating area, we created three modules: stools, lighting tables, and plant pots, all of which are randomly placed within a wooden structure to create a flexible and free seating arrangement.”
