When % Arabica’s owner, Kenneth, decided to open a flagship store in Kyoto, he felt the need to find a head barista from Kyoto to pay respect to the traditional city. Then he found Junichi on Facebook, and he spent a year convincing him to build this brand together. When Junichi decided to work for % Arabica, Kenneth asked where the flagship location should be, and Junichi, who is from Kyoto, replied immediately, ”Higashiyama!”
Higashiyama is a special place where you can time travel to the past, where Maiko-san can be seen strolling around elegantly or you can take a rickshaw ride on the stone paved streets. It is surrounded by popular attractions that represent Kyoto’s enduring history such as Kiyomizu Temple, Gion, Yasaka Shrine, Yasaka Pagoda and the Kodaiji Temple.
Our flagship store is located on Yasaka Street, the road that leads to the symbol of Higashiyama, Yasaka Pagoda, which was built more than 500 years ago in 1440.
