Across the river, you find TANK Shanghai, a groundbreaking and multifunctional art centre where the public can get close to art and architecture. It is a non-profit art institution founded by renowned contemporary art collector Qiao Zhibing. The five tanks belonged to Shanghai Longhua Airport, one of the first airports in China (decommissioned in 1966). The interior of the tanks is spacious, with a height of more than 15 meters, and features an industrial dome and curved circumference. It is an art ecology that combines various exhibition spaces, parks, green spaces, plazas, river views and cafes, and is a vibrant art and cultural landmark in Shanghai.

The Commune Social is located at the Design Republic Commune, a design gallery, shop and event space in a former colonial police station designed by Neri&Hu architecture studio Neri&Hu. Synonymous with the restaurant name, The Commune Social invites communal dining where the guests are welcome to share various dishes. The food concept is a fresh and modern take on Spanish tapas, where the small plates served are refined interpretations of the tapas genre with an international twist.
