Founded in 1615, Nishiki Market is the oldest food market in Kyoto.  Located one block north of Sijyo Street (4th Street) and Fujii Daimaru, you can enjoy over 100 small stores which sell fresh vegetables, seafood, meat, sweets, Japanese teas, etc.  There is also a world famous Japanese knife store, Aritsugu with over 450 years of heritage.  In Kyoto, there are so many stores which have been around for several centuries, and for Kyoto locals, a shop with 200 years of history is still considered young.

This is a popular capsule hotel with distinct futuristic design.  It has a very simple system which provides a shower and capsule booth to sleep in comfortably, while being just a one minute walk from Fujii Daimaru.  If you book 60 days in advance, you can even get 1,000 Yen off.  If you've never tried a capsule hotel, Nine Hours would be perfect as your first experience.

Tenryuji ranks first among Arashiyama's five great Zen temples, and is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This majestic temple has been standing since 1339, by the ruling shogun Ashikaga Takauji, who dedicated the temple to Emperor Go-Daigo who recently passed away. For multiple centuries, Tenryuji has served as the head school for its sect of Rinzai Zen. Despite multiple fires and disasters that led to reconstruction in the 20th century, the garden is still intact in its original state, as built by Zen master and famous garden designer Muso Suseki. Around the temple, you will enjoy the traditional architecture, and the expansive garden which is a sight to behold.

This Michelin-starred restaurant is recognised for its excellent grilled eel, or unagi, and is a short walk away from the % Arabica Kyoto Arashiyama store. The waiting queue to eat may take at least 30 minutes, especially around lunch time. We suggest booking one of their private rooms, which you can reserve in advance for only 1000 Yen. Their signature dish is grilled unagi served on hot rice, available in multiple sizes, from small (una don) to extra large (tokujyou una jyu). While most unagi is served the same way, grilled, steamed, and basted in a sweet, and salty sauce, Hirokawa has perfected its dish since its establishment in 1967. While you're in Arashiyama, it's a must-visit that's definitely worth the wait.

Our favourite lunch spot in Kyoto. Okakita is a gorgeous Japanese soba restaurant. Their egg drop donburi is on another level. They offer small donburi dishes, so we recommend ordering a small donburi dish (Tanin-don, Oyako-don, Tentoji-don) plus a simple cold soba (Seiro) or soba with tempura (Ten-Seiro). They don't take reservations, so usually there's a long queue outside, so you may need to wait for 20 minutes. If you go during off-peak hours around 3-4pm, you can go straight in which is what we normally do.

This museum opened in 1988, as a comprehensive companion to exploring Kyoto's rich culture and history. It was recently renovated to include a first floor that historically recreates an Edo period street. You will also get to enjoy a number of exhibits of various artists' works throughout the year. For just a small admission fee of 500 Yen, you'll see a wide range of crafts, like photography, traditional woodmaking, fashion, paintings, and much more.

% Arabica's all time favorite sushi bar in Kyoto.  Sushi Imai is only a 5 minute walk from our Higashiyama store.  If you want to experience the real authentic sushi, this is the place.  The owner and chef, Imai-san, does not speak English, so please order ''Omakase,’’ which literally translates to “I’ll leave it up to you.”  His eel is, according to % Arabica's founder, Kenneth, the single most delicious food in all of Kyoto.  Omakase costs about 15,000 Yen plus tax and drinks, so the price is not cheap however, you can surely learn what sushi is all about at this restaurant.  They take reservations only, so if you plan to go, he will understand (and treat you) better if you tell them that % Arabica recommended this place.

This restaurant boasts amazing infrastructure, as it was previously the atelier of a famous Japanese painter, Hokan Takeuchi.  The Japanese architecture and garden are breathtaking, which is perfect for you to enjoy quality Italian food.  They have set menus, and we recommend their signature, ''The Sodoh'' which goes for 5,000 Yen.  Their service is good, and wine is even greater.  After dinner, they have a gorgeous bar two minutes away, which we recommend you go to for a night cap at another gorgeous Japanese house.  It's the perfect dinner place for design lovers, so we recommend booking a few days in advance.
