Designer's Note
The project is located on a three-sided street corner in Paris, within an architecturally unique topographical environment, with more than a meter of height difference. To maximize the spatial potential of the location, our primary idea was to create a setting where people gather at the different height foundations of the façade to enjoy a cup of coffee. Sitting in front of a café itself is a common landscape in Paris, but the act of sitting on the height differences between the interior and the ground is reminiscent of the scene around the window of a traditional Japanese house.
The traditional Parisian style of the façade is shown in wood and stone elements, while subtly adding a Japanese touch. Inside, the kitchen counter which serves as the main feature of the store, is arranged to form a dialogue around the existing large stone columns. Benches are lined along the exterior windows, inviting customers to sit and enjoy both the store’s interiors and the Parisian streets outside the windows.
